Bike Riding Weather

Sue | March 8, 2010

Bike Riding Weather:

We are enjoying some wonderfully warm weather right now here in Canada, the roads are clear and I decided it was time to get my mountain bike out and go for a ride. Before I take it out for a good ride I wanted to make sure that everything is good to go, plus make a check list of what bike accessories I will need this year.

First off we want to make sure that the chain is lubed and that the tires are good. Most bikes require between 35 to 70 psi depending on the tire, rider and the terrain. Of course a good wash to get rid of any excess dirt and mud left from last season.

As I am using bike riding as my main weight loss method, there are a few accessories I want to make sure that I have this year.

Water bottle – You should be drinking water every 15 minutes to keep you hydrated while riding.

Bike Computer – great for knowing the speed and distance

Heart Rate Monitor – tells you exactly how many calories you are burning.

Good bike seat – imperative if you want to do some good biking.

Bike Shorts – along with a good seat these shorts will provide you with added comfort.

To shop for your bike accessories visit my healthy lifestyle bike store.

Ice Dancing At The Olympics

I received a email from a co-worker that I haven’t heard from in a while. It seems I know someone who has a family member in the Vancouver Olympics!!

‘For those of you that are watching the Olympics tonight, the Ice Dancing starts at 7:45 PM (EST). Our niece and her skating partner (Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier) are Canada’s 2nd entry. They are in Group #3 and are the 13th group to skate. Please join us in wishing them well.

Keep Smilin’ …..

Fred’

We all wish them the best of luck Fred, you must be proud!

Walking Around the Block With My Dog

Sue | February 3, 2010

Walking Around the Block

Today was not so cold out so after doing a good round of situps and pushups, off my stairs. Thank hubby for the good advice here. Makes it easier than trying to do them on my knees or full blown version, yet!

I braved the Canadian winter and took Skyla around the block. She is a really strong lab and loves to pull, so I had to devise a way so that she was not pulling me over in the snow. I ended up putting her leash across my shoulder blades so if she pulled I used my arm as a lever and shortened the leash. It was a tough hour and hard going but we made it around the 4.5 km back home for a nice bowl of Butternut squash and sweet potato soup.

Not sure who is going to be more sore, my shoulders or Skyla! Skyla is three now and if I don’t conquer her pulling when we walk it will be impossbile to do so in the future.

I am feeling really good right now and my stomach muscles are sore so that must be a good sign.

Calories burned for 60 minutes of walking with the dog 332.

Off To The Races!

Off To The Races!

Well I finally got back on track and am raring to go again. A lot of self talk and telling myself not to get disappointed about life. Things normally happen for a reason and my reason will become clearer as the days pass by.

My next goal is to lose 25 pounds. I started back with the 30 day shred again and this time went to level two. There is actually less jumping involved but it is very tough. I was sweating like crazy by the time I was finished and boy could I feel my arm and stomach muscles.

Now that I am not doing my course anymore I miss my walks. I had every intention of starting them up and taking Skyla for a walk around the block, about 4miles. I was just getting dressed to go yesterday morning when a snow squall came in with high, high winds. So needless to say we stayed inside. The storm raged all day here!

I spent some time looking through some cookbooks and picked a few recipes to try out that sound good and are low in fat and healthy. I am pretty much cooking for only the two of us right now, so I have to remember to make less. Especially when it comes to the potatoes! Unfortunately I do love my roasted and oven baked potato wedgies.

You can find part of the reason of how I got more motivated over at my other blog, Whoissuefleckenstein, take a peek and feel free to leave comments.

Staying Motivated

Staying Motivated

Are you finding it hard to stay motivated to your new lifestyle plan? I know I was, but now I am finding it easier read on to find out why.

I love the benefits of exercise and the way it makes me feel.I have so much energy, that I just want to do things, including clean the house or go for a bike ride.

Having to go out and buy new clothes!

It’s a great feeling when even your new clothes are too big within a very short time.

Receiving comments from friends and of course my husband! Makes  me feel wonderful.

Getting full faster when you eat. I can’t eat more even if I wanted to.

Just enjoying doing something for yourself.

My other source of motivation is from stories I hear from other people. As you know I enjoy watching the reality shows Biggest Loser, X weighted and Last 10lbs bootcamp. Just seeing how much these people push themselves to do their exercise, it made me feel that I gave up way too quickly. Though I am not about to make myself faint or throw up, I find I have been doing more, and I love the thought that doing something is better than doing nothing. Inbetween commercials run up and down your basement stairs, do some leg raises, push ups or situps, everyone counts for something.

This week I watched one of the shows and there was a lady that wanted to work up to a 50km bike ride pulling her daughter. She lived in Canada too and would ride her bike when the snow was not around whenever possible. I figured if she can do it so can I. I went out shopping this morning and got myself a head band and a warm pair of gloves, so I have no excuse not to keep on riding right now, other than needing a new seat! We have no snow yet, but it is much colder though the next few days should be warmer.

So do something good for yourself this weekend, get out and walk or bike!
