Like most things in life, it is very difficult to achieve lasting results without developing some sort of routine day-to-day weight loss. This applies to programs of weight loss diet and weight loss exercise routine as well. This alone probably takes most of us to succeed with our goals of weight loss than any other factor. Certainly, many of us hit the road running. We buy the latest books, tapes, DVDs, cookbooks and special foods, etc. – basically everything under the sun that will help us reach our goal weight loss. But unfortunately, many of us quickly fall back into our old routine and new programs never give enough of a chance of actually working.
I myself have started a weight loss routine vigorous on several occasions, only to fall totally in step with them in a short week or two to start. And let’s face it – most of us will never see significant results in that short a time. So where did we go wrong? Why do people start and stop their weight loss, and more on routine? Well there are many reasons, but I personally think it all boils down to one thing – lack of real commitment to stick to a regular routine. What can we do to beat this obstacle?
The first thing to do is set realistic expectations of weight loss routine. We start with small steps, if necessary. Let’s just assume that you already have a pretty complete program and are not sitting around the house with nothing to do all day. Why you should start with a routine of weight loss that requires you to pass an hour a day working toward your goals of weight loss exercise? Sure – it would be nice if you could do, and as there will be a month or two down the road, if there was an aggressive plan that? But are you really going to go from zero minutes a day to sixty minutes a day just like that? Perhaps – but for most of us, probably not.
So why not try this approach? Take this up to bare minimum. Do you want to spend just five minutes a day, or every other day, performing a sort of low-impact exercise to begin with. Five minutes on the exercise ball, elliptical, treadmill or bicycle – you name it – is better than nothing, but will go a long way towards helping you develop a weight loss routine that you can stick with. If five minutes is too short for you and you can easily bump up to ten, fifteen or twenty minutes every day or every two days, then all the better.
