Bike Riding Weather

Bike Riding Weather:

We are enjoying some wonderfully warm weather right now here in Canada, the roads are clear and I decided it was time to get my mountain bike out and go for a ride. Before I take it out for a good ride I wanted to make sure that everything is good to go, plus make a check list of what bike accessories I will need this year.

First off we want to make sure that the chain is lubed and that the tires are good. Most bikes require between 35 to 70 psi depending on the tire, rider and the terrain. Of course a good wash to get rid of any excess dirt and mud left from last season.

As I am using bike riding as my main weight loss method, there are a few accessories I want to make sure that I have this year.

Water bottle – You should be drinking water every 15 minutes to keep you hydrated while riding.

Bike Computer – great for knowing the speed and distance

Heart Rate Monitor – tells you exactly how many calories you are burning.

Good bike seat – imperative if you want to do some good biking.

Bike Shorts – along with a good seat these shorts will provide you with added comfort.

To shop for your bike accessories visit my healthy lifestyle bike store.

September Update

September Update

Well it has been over two months since I began my weight loss journey. At first I wasn’t seeing any results, but I felt so much better, so I continued on my way.

I started getting my husband to drop me off at his sister’s house and I would have breakfast with her. Then walk across town to my Business classes. We measured the walk and it is approximately 4.5km and takes me about 50 minutes to complete. It was really difficult at first, my shins would hurt and I felt like I couldn’t breathe properly. But I didn’t give up and slowly the walk became a little better, the hills seemed more like a steep slope instead of a mountain. I did this 4 times a week, unless it was really humid outside, as I just can’t handle the humidity.

The biggest benefit was the way I felt, I just had more energy and was more motivated to do things on the weekend, gardening, more walking…I just started feeling good.

Then a friend at my class, Anna, said that she had started bike riding and was loving it and that you get a big bang for your buck, fitness wise. Well Matt’s bike was sitting in our garage, so I took it out got the tires pumped up and went for a ten minute ride. Boy was I sore, in places I never expected, my arms and chest muscles, but again it felt wonderful afterwards. So I decided to add this to my routine as much as I could. I aim for about 5 rides a week for 30 minutes each.

A couple of weeks ago I started getting compliments about how I looked, but honestly I hadn’t noticed a drop on the scales! I measured myself and saw that in total I had dropped about 6 inches in two months, so that was great motivation in itself. I have noticed now that some of my clothes are starting to feel really baggy, so much that I start to feel uncomfortable and can’t wait to get home and change.

I am not sure how many pounds I have dropped as I found out that our scales weren’t working properly…so I was probably another 30 lbs heavier than I thought, which makes me feel terrible!! But I am on the path to a better, healthier lifestyle and nothing is going to stop me now.

I am going to start posting more often and share my successes and my doubts with you, please feel free to add your comments about your own weight loss or lifestyle journey.

Sue
