Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Well the New Year finally came and went and it is time to get back on track with life in general. I weighed myself this morning and only gained 1 pound over the holidays so I am very glad about that. I now have to get back on track with exercise, I have rested my foot so will see how it goes when I start up tomorrow.

I love the saying: It is not what you do between Christmas and New Year’s, it’s what you do between New Year’s and Christmas that counts!

It is very true a few days of extras is not going to hurt it’s when those few days turn into weeks and then months.

So for myself for getting back on track I purchased some digital food scales so I can really track what I eat, plus I opend a free account over at myfitnesspal so it will make it really easy to track my food, exercise and water intake. Plus meet others who are trying to lose weight and maybe get inspired, hey or even inspire someone myself!

Why don’t you get your own tracker and join me in losing weight and making your own lifestyle more healthy?

Tuesday/Weigh-In

Tuesday/Weigh-In

Weighed myself in this morning and am down another 2lbs. It must be all the stacking and moving firewood and cleaning my walls in preparation for painting! Any exercise is good as long as you move. This week I have managed to walk 9kms so far, even though my foot is still sore, it seems to get better as it warms up and gets worked in.

Found some easy ways to burn calories:

For a 150-pound person, doing these exercises will burn about 150 calories.

Walking 1.5 km at a pace of 15 to 20 minutes per km
Swimming laps for 20 minutes
Bicycling for 30 minutes
Running 1.5 km at a pace of 10 minutes per km
Climbing stairs for 15 minutes
Raking leaves for 30 minutes
Playing basketball for 15 to 30 minutes
Playing volleyball for 45 to 60 minutes
Gardening for 30 to 45 minutes
Jumping rope for 15 minutes
Dancing for 30 minutes
Plus for those of us living in a snowy climate we can add snow shovelling to that list.

The more intense you work out, it will take less time to burn the calories, or the more calories you will burn in the same amount of time! Pick one and try it out today!

New Exercises Added

New Exercises Added

With the weather getting colder and wetter I wasn’t able to get outside and exercise as much, so had to start training inside. I went out and got the 30 day shred DVD and boy does it give you a workout. I watched it all the way through and it didn’t look that hard. Of course doing it was something else and I was sweating and hurting pretty fast. I followed it all the way through the first level and did the 30 minutes, had to modify a few things towards the end but didn’t want to give up. I am all ready feeling the burn and am looking forward to working out tomorrow some more.

Food wise I am really making the effort to keep my food journal and track everything I eat. My weight loss has slowed down in the last couple of weeks but haven’t gotten out on my bike as much either. My stair climbing has started to bother my knee a bit so have slowed down on that for a few days, but I was up to 64 times.

From all my reading I am learning that I need to eat 1200 calories a day to get to my target weight of 170 lbs, but that I also need to burn that many calories per day. I am having trouble with that, my morning walk burns about 300 calories and the DVD burn 279, so that doesn’t even get me half way there. Will have to do some more research and see what else I can add in to burn those calories!

Trying to do incorporate as much fresh food as possible and use the least amount of canned food and sauces. Today for lunch I had a turkey and lettuce sandwich, I used a nice spicy mustard on the rye bread instead of any margarine or mayo and it tasted good. Tonight we are having homemade pizza and I can have a nice slice without feeling guilty. For the weekend I plan on cooking spaghetti, but I will use spaghetti squash instead of noodles and am loading it with tons of fresh peppers and mushrooms…am looking forward to it.

Off to take the dogs out and have a herbal tea.

Monday Weigh In

Monday Weigh In

It was time for my weekly weigh in and since I got my new scales I am down 8lbs to 230lbs. It was pouring with rain this morning so could not do my walk so made up for it tonight by using my exercise ball and stepper for 30 mins. It feels great once I am done and the ball is so much harder than it seems. I love it for effective sit-ups, I am up to 15 but boy do I feel it the next day! Sometimes I think it would be nice to know what my exact weight was, but then I think I would be mortified, I feel bad enough to be over 200lbs, I never gained that much when I was pregnant!

My husband brought home red wine to go with our home made beef stew tonight. So I counted all my calories, reduced my protein to 2oz and enjoyed one glass with dinner. I am currently keeping to 1200 calories per day, on the weekends I might go to 1300, but this seems to be getting me results with my exercises.

I also started walking up and down my basement stairs. I started at 50 reps and at 1 set on my next work out day, I am leaving one day in between for my muscles to recouperate. Again this takes me less than 10 minutes but the cardio is very effective and 500ml of water goes down with no efforts once I am done. I am currently at 54 reps and recovered much quicker last night, so I all ready see an improvement.

Off for my herbal tea for the evening.
